THE CAMP & FACILITIES
Accommodation
Accommodation includes 10 spacious, East African safari tents, charming open-air showers fuelled by wood fires, outdoor washbasins and a chemical free plunge pool. The lodge setting specifically aims to blend in with, rather than detract from its natural surroundings.
The lodge’s safari tents create a greater connection with what is outside and allow guests to hear, see and smell more than if they were housed in a concrete or solid structure. No trees were removed when the property was developed and everything was planned around what was already there, like a majestic 450 year old Jackalberry tree, Apple Leaf trees and Bushwillows. This allows for guests to experience the magic of the African bush while in camp and not just whilst out on walks or game drives.
Currently three tents feature en-suite facilities and early in 2012, renovations will take place to add en-suite facilities to the remaining 7 tents. This exciting project aims to be completed by May 2012.
Catering
With a focus on both quality and quantity Bateleur provides breakfast, lunch and dinner. Special dietary requirements can be catered for by prior arrangement. Guests can enjoy unlimited quantities of tea, coffee, soft drinks, juices and water. Dinner is an experience on its own as guests are served around a camp fire in an open-air boma.
The camp
Day-to-day operations aim to make a minimal impact on the environment. Solar power, gas & natural fuel such as wood purchased from community projects is used, instead of electricity.
The lodge is unfenced, except for a single strand high electric wire designed to keep the elephants out.
Maintenance of the property and land is carried out throughout the year and this includes the rehabilitation of areas affected by erosion, keeping the roads network to a bare minimum and closing or re-routing all roads crossing sensitive soils. No off-road driving is permitted on seep lines, sodic sites, clay soils or dry riverbeds and all artificial watering holes have also been closed, as these have been proven to create an unnatural distribution of animals.
Game drives are conducted in green, open Land Rover game-viewers. |
